Refund Policy
Last Updated: October 17, 2026
The short version:
- Cancel during the free trial and you pay nothing.
- Cancel anytime after that and your plan runs to the end of the period you paid for.
- Refunds are decided case by case. If something went wrong, write to us and we'll make it fair.
- A mistake on our side, like a double charge, is always refunded.
- An unopened gift can be refunded in full within 30 days.
- Please write to us before disputing a charge with your bank.
The Free Trial
Starting the free trial adds your card but charges nothing for 7 days (14 days through a friend's Refer a Friend link). Cancel from your Dashboard before the trial ends and you're never charged. We email you about 2 days before it ends. If you pick a plan during the trial, the trial ends and that plan is charged right away.
Canceling a Plan
You can cancel Gusteau Starter or Gusteau Pro anytime from your Dashboard: press Manage Billing, then Cancel Plan, and confirm. A family seat ends when you remove that person in Family. You can also ask us to cancel by email, the Support form or phone. Your plan keeps working until the end of the month or year you've paid for, and then it stops renewing. Canceling doesn't by itself refund the period you're in.
When We Refund
We look at each request fairly, case by case. We always refund:
- a charge made by mistake on our side, such as a double charge, or a renewal after you canceled in time;
- the unused part of a paid period if we close your account without you breaking our Terms, or if we shut Gusteau down.
We'll usually also refund, though we don't promise to:
- a renewal you didn't mean to keep, if you write within 7 days of it and haven't really used Gusteau since;
- time when Gusteau was broken or down for you for a long stretch and we couldn't fix it.
We don't usually refund a period you've used, unused allowances, time lost to a fair-use pause, or an account closed for breaking our rules. Where the law where you live gives you a right to a refund or to cancel (for example, in some places a right to withdraw from an online purchase), you have that right too, and nothing here takes it away. When you start a plan, you ask us to begin the service straight away.
In the European Union, the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, you can withdraw within 14 days of the day a paid plan starts, without giving a reason. Tell us by email, the Support form or phone, for example "I'm withdrawing from my Gusteau plan". We refund the charge within 14 days of hearing from you, less a fair share for the days of the plan you'd already used, and the plan ends.
Gifts
Gifts have no fees and never expire. A gift that hasn't been opened yet can be refunded in full, tax included: write to us within 30 days of buying it, and the gift link stops working. Once it's opened, we treat it like a plan that has started: we don't usually refund it, and if we do (or the charge is refunded or disputed with the bank), the Pro time it gave ends, or the credit it became comes off the bill. Referral credits can't be turned into money.
Family Seats
Seats are billed to the family owner. Adding a seat is charged right away for the rest of the current period. Removing one is prorated by Stripe too, so removing a member normally gives a credit toward the owner's next bill rather than money back. We never add card or processing fees to a charge.
Switching Plans
Moving between Starter and Pro, or between monthly and yearly, is prorated by Stripe: you're credited for the unused part of the old plan and charged for the new one. Moving up is charged right away; moving down leaves a credit on your next bill. One exception: if you move from Pro to Starter after using more that month than Starter covers, the Pro you used isn't credited.
How to Ask
Write to support@trygusteau.com from the email on your account, use the form on the Support page, or call 315-898-1257, 1 PM to 7 PM Eastern. Tell us which charge and what happened. A real person replies within one day. Approved refunds go back to the card you paid with through Stripe and usually show up within 5 to 10 business days, depending on your bank. Taxes are refunded with the charge they were part of.
Disputing a Charge
Please write to us before disputing a charge with your bank; it's faster, and most problems are fixed within a day. If a charge is disputed, we may pause the account while the dispute is open, and we'll give Stripe and your bank the facts of the charge. Disputes made in bad faith may lead to the account being closed.
Changes
We may update this policy. The version in effect when you were charged applies to that charge. This policy is part of our Terms of Service.
