The short version:
- Gusteau should work for every cook, however you see, hear, move or read.
- We aim for WCAG 2.2 at level AA on the website and the app.
- Something in the way? Tell us and a real person will look at it within a few days.
What We Aim For
Wyzie LLC wants Gusteau to be easy to use for everyone, including people who use a screen reader, a keyboard, switch access, voice control, magnification or high contrast. Our target is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA, for the website at trygusteau.com and the app at gusteau.ar0.eu.
What We Do
- Every page can be used with a keyboard, with a visible focus ring and a Skip to Content link.
- Buttons, fields and messages are labeled so screen readers can say what they are and what changed.
- Text and controls are made to meet AA contrast, in light and dark mode, and the pages work when you zoom in or make text bigger.
- Motion is kept small, and it is turned down when your device asks for reduced motion.
- In Cook Mode, steps can be read aloud and Hands-Free lets you move through a recipe by voice.
- We check pages with automated tools and by hand as we build them.
Known Limits
We're still working on it, and some things may fall short:
- Recipes and dish pictures are made by AI. A dish picture is described by its recipe's name, not in detail, and a recipe may now and then be worded in a way that is harder to follow.
- Parts run by other companies follow their own accessibility work, not ours: the card number, expiry and security code fields Stripe serves inside our card form, your bank's check if it asks to confirm a payment, Google sign-in, Instacart and Kroger.
- Hands-Free uses your browser's own speech recognition, so how well it hears you depends on the browser and device.
Tell Us About a Barrier
If something on Gusteau is hard or impossible for you to use, we want to know. Write to support@trygusteau.com, use the form on the Support page, or call 315-898-1257, 1 PM to 7 PM Eastern. Tell us the page, what you were trying to do, and what you use (for example, a screen reader and browser), if you're happy to. A real person replies, usually within a day, and we aim to fix or work around the problem within a few days, or tell you when we can. If you need a recipe, a bill or one of our pages in another format, ask and we'll help.
