Gusteau's AI and Cooking Safety
Last Updated: October 17, 2026
The short version:
- Gusteau is an AI, not a person, and not a doctor or dietitian.
- He's usually right and sometimes wrong. Check allergies, temperatures and anything that looks off.
- You're the cook: you decide what to make and how, at your own risk.
- He can't change your plan, grant refunds or make promises for us. People on our team can.
- What you tell him goes to our AI provider, xAI, to answer you. We don't train AI on it.
Meet the Chef
Gusteau, the little chef, is an artificial intelligence made by Wyzie LLC. He runs on a large language model from our AI provider, xAI, with instructions, checks and rules we wrote around it. He's not a person, and no one at Wyzie reads your conversations with him as they happen. This page is part of our Terms of Service.
What He Does
- Writes recipes from what you ask, a photo or a link, and plans their timing so everything is ready together.
- Brings in recipes you already have, from a link, pasted text or photos of a cookbook page or a handwritten card, and writes them up as they are, with a timing plan. Check what he read, especially from handwriting: when he can't read something, he says what he chose in the recipe's notes.
- Changes a recipe when you ask (Tweak), and answers questions while you cook.
- Suggests ideas, fills your week plan (to a budget if you give one, with a rough guess at what each meal costs), writes shopping lists, and reads photos of your fridge, pantry or receipts. Price guesses aren't quotes: real prices depend on the store and the week.
- Draws pictures of dishes. They show what a dish might look like, not exactly what you'll get.
- Gives each recipe a rough nutrition estimate per serving (calories, protein, carbs and fat), worked out from the ingredients. It is a guess, not a measurement, and not medical or dietary advice: check labels and ask a professional if you count for your health.
- Learns your tastes over time (What Gusteau Knows), which you can see, change or delete.
What He Can't Do
- He can be wrong. AI can state wrong things confidently: a time, a temperature, an amount, a swap, an ingredient in a photo, or whether something suits your diet. Recipes may not have been tested in a real kitchen.
- He isn't a professional. Nothing he says is medical, nutritional, health, food safety certification or other professional advice. If you have a medical condition, a serious allergy or a special diet, follow your doctor or dietitian.
- He can't act for Wyzie. He can't see or change your billing, change your plan, grant refunds or credits, or agree to anything on our behalf. If he seems to promise any of that, it doesn't count; our Terms and the people on our team decide.
- He only cooks. He helps with food, recipes, groceries and kitchens. Ask him for something else, like code, homework or advice on other subjects, and he'll politely say no and bring it back to dinner.
- He doesn't know everything about your kitchen. He only knows what you've told him and what he can see in a photo, and can't check your oven, your thermometer or your ingredients.
Cooking Safely
You're the cook, and you decide what to make and how. Please:
- Check for allergens yourself, every time, in the ingredient list and on the packaging of what you buy, when anyone eating has an allergy or intolerance. Gusteau checks each recipe against the diet and allergies you've told him and warns you in the notes when something may not fit, but he can miss things. Watch for hidden sources, such as nuts in pesto, gluten in soy sauce, or dairy in stock.
- Cook to safe temperatures, measured with a thermometer: 165°F (74°C) for poultry and leftovers, 160°F (71°C) for ground meat, 145°F (63°C) for whole cuts of beef, pork, lamb and fish, with a rest. Follow trusted food safety advice, such as the USDA's or your local food agency's, over any recipe or answer that disagrees with it.
- Handle and store food safely: keep raw meat apart from ready-to-eat food, wash hands and boards, chill leftovers within two hours, and take extra care when cooking for anyone pregnant, very young, older or with a weak immune system.
- Be careful with heat and blades: hot oil, open flames, gas, pressure cookers, glass in the oven and sharp knives can hurt you. Never put water on a grease fire. Supervise children.
- Stop if something looks wrong. If a step seems unsafe, impossible or strange, don't do it. Ask Gusteau to explain, or check a trusted source.
As far as the law allows, Wyzie isn't responsible for illness, allergic reactions, injury or damage to property that comes from preparing, cooking or eating food, or from following what Gusteau says. Our Terms say more.
What Happens to What You Tell Him
- To answer you, we send xAI what that request needs: your message, any photo you attach, the recipe in question, and the tastes, diet and kitchen details Gusteau uses to suit you. xAI processes it to give us the answer, under its terms for API customers: it doesn't train its models on it, and keeps it for up to 30 days to check for abuse, then deletes it.
- We keep your recipes, chats and What Gusteau Knows in your account so he can remember you, and you can delete them any time. A request he's working on, and its answer, wait on our servers for up to a day so nothing is lost if the page closes.
- We don't use what you tell Gusteau to train AI models, and we don't sell it or use it for ads.
- Don't tell him things he doesn't need, such as passwords, card numbers or other people's private details.
The Privacy Policy has the full details.
Using Him Fairly
Don't try to trick Gusteau into ignoring his rules, revealing his instructions, or producing harmful, illegal, hateful or sexual content, or instructions for poisons, weapons or anything dangerous. The Acceptable Use Policy applies to everything you ask him.
What He Makes for You
You can use the recipes and other things Gusteau makes for you however you like, including cooking, printing, sharing and publishing them. Others may get similar recipes, and recipes often can't be owned by anyone, so we don't promise they're exclusive to you. If you publish one, you're responsible for checking it first.
Talk to a Person
Gusteau handles the cooking. Support is people (if we ever add an AI helper there, the Support Assistant page says how it works, and you can still ask for a person): write to support@trygusteau.com, use the form on the Support page, or call 315-898-1257, 1 PM to 7 PM Eastern. A real person replies within one day. If Gusteau said something wrong or unsafe, please tell us so we can fix it.
